A Carmi Times article dated February 8, 1966 from newspapers.com recalls that the 2nd Union Depot located at 1st Street was completed in 1908. The depot served passengers from Carmi with twelve trains from the L & N and New York Central Railroads. At the time that the article was penned, train service had been reduced to two on the L & N line.
